How to Move Files to an Embroidery Machine

Most embroidery machines have a USB port to be able to access files from outside of the base designs. There is no way to move an actual file to the machine itself. All files stay on the drive and are read from the drive itself. I would recommend dedicating a USB drive solely to your machine. Keep all the files organized so you are not constantly clicking through several pages searching for the new file you saved.

Newer laptop models have shied away from USB ports to USB-C as most people store files in the cloud. I for one hate that transition as a hard drive girly who doesn’t want to pay a monthly subscription to house my files. If you do not have a traditional USB port, here is the hub adaptor that I use. This one is very inexpensive at under $20, has two USB ports, a USB-C, HDMI, and even a port to read memory cards. Here is a second option if you want even more ports: this one has 8 total, including three USB ports and even an ethernet port! The size of the USB drive depends on how many files you want to store on the drive itself. Mine is only 8 gigs since I do not store all of my embroidery files on it. Simply move what you want to embroider that day on it or the files you stitch out the most on it.

If you don’t want an adaptor hub there are also duo flash drives. A duo includes both a USB and USB-C side. Here is a duo drive with 128GB storage, if you prefer this route. I would stay away from the slide out duo flash drives as they tend to break easily.
