For those who do not know I am obsessed with sharks. No, I’m not crazy enough to want to swim along side them, I just believe they are magnificent creatures. When I first came across this beautiful shark quilt I was instantly in love. After about six months it started to develop a pills all over it, making it look overused, cheap and trashy. At this point many people said it was time to throw it away and get something new.
Since this was one of those random finds at a Home Good it wasn’t like I could just pick up another one. That’s if I overlooked the fact that it pilled within less than a year of use too. I figured well why not try out a pill shaver. Prior to this I’d heard mixed reviews on shavers. Either they are too aggressive and ruin the fabric, not aggressive enough doing nothing or are a miracle worker. I’ve tried the pilling files which are okay for small hot spots on sweaters and such but not for an entire quilt.
This specific shaver has two models, battery powered or rechargeable. Not sure why the rechargeable model is twice as expensive but it is. For two times the price having to charge it too just seemed like a double negative which is why I decided on the cheaper battery powered model. The shaver has three modes on the top but I have yet to see any real difference between them. Overall this shaver is one of my favorite tools for not only restoring this quilt but also for reselling online. Sometimes an item is still in good condition but the material has pilled just a little bit, this thing bring the item back to top quality. Plus it can be used on furniture! I haven’t tried furniture since we’ve yet to have pilling on any of ours, but they did work on our dining room chair cushions.
Another plus is this item does qualify for the registry completion discount on Amazon.
